This House Looks Like a Hut From a Fairy Tale. It’s 500 Years Old And Still Inhabited: How Do a Family With Two Children Live There?

Imagine a house constructed back in the 16th century. In my homeland, such structures feel like something out of a fairy tale. As villages dwindle, wooden edifices decay, and brick buildings gradually crumble… This trend is attributed to the migration of young people to urban centers and the gradual decline of the older generation. Those seeking solitude in rural areas often opt to build new homes rather than restore old ones. However, some regions worldwide have managed to preserve historic buildings, thanks to the growth of tourism. One such place is the Cotswolds in England – a veritable haven for aficionados of countryside charm. Let me acquaint you with a dwelling that has endured here since the 16th century. Over the years, it has changed hands numerous times. Presently, it belongs to a couple from London, where the husband is in business and the wife works as an interior designer.

Properties in the Cotswolds seldom hit the market, and when they do, news of such transactions spreads swiftly due to the high demand to reside in this extraordinary locale. The ambiance in the area is marked by a unique warmth and camaraderie among neighbors. Even those who have relocated find themselves returning to stroll the streets anew and revel in the Cotswolds’ splendor. When news spread of our acquisition, my mother received countless emails from former occupants sharing their tales,” notes the current proprietor. – One even wrote that he had experienced the happiest years of his life in this very house,” she adds. – To this day, former dwellers occasionally drop by, eager to reminisce about their time here.

Now, let’s embark on a virtual tour of the abode. We’ll commence with the kitchen, which doubles as a dining area. Adorned in vibrant, opulent hues – from the kitchen cabinetry painted in the shade of lush grass to the kaleidoscopic decorative plates adorning the walls – the interior exudes charm. Textiles, including tablecloths, rugs, and upholstery, are meticulously selected to enhance the ambiance.

An assortment of pitchers creates a captivating display, drawing the eye. While all furnishings boast a vintage aesthetic, the homeowner handpicked fabrics to upholster the sofas and armchairs, revitalizing antique pieces with modern flair.

The transition from the living room to the kitchen is seamless, with paintings by the previous homeowner adorning the upper walls, complemented by watercolor artworks from the current mistress’s great-great-grandmother.

In the children’s quarters, where the couple’s two daughters reside, a harmonious blend of bedding, table lamps, and decorative plates graces the space.

Moving to the parents’ chamber on the first floor, a bench by the bed, painted by the homeowner’s mother, adds a personalized touch.

The residence also boasts a guest room, featuring an antique French bedspread – a prized possession within the space.

Curious about the washroom?

In addition to the guest bathroom showcased earlier, the house boasts a full bathroom, complete with a luxurious and expansive bathtub.

As our tour concludes, share your impressions! Did this home captivate you? Do you find the use of bright colors and patterns fitting here?
