Albinism is a hereditary disease. It occurs in one out of 20,000 residents of Europe and North America. People with such a genetic disorder have pale skin, eyes and hair. They were considered to be somehow unusual and were treated cruely in the past. Now people react normally when they see albinos. But this is only in civilized countries.

There are regions in Africa where albinos are threatened with physical violence. Shamans and healers are convinced that their meat has magical properties.
