In order to comfort one another, shelter dogs touch noses over their kennels
Sophia did her best to make her kennel feel like home when she first arrived to Tri-Cities Animal Shelter in August. She occasionally experienced loneliness, but the good news was that she always had the option of peeking her head over the wall, where Duke, her neighbor, would be waiting to provide her a sympathetic prod.
Volunteering at the shelter Julie Saraceno told that it was heartwarming to watch two canines find solace in one another.
Saraceno became aware of this tendency when Sophia suddenly appeared on the other side of the wall as she was recording Duke for a DVD. The tenderness of their exchange touched Saraceno.
Saraceno remarked, “I could tell [Sophia] had done this before. “I always appreciate it when the dogs at the shelter figure out a method to make their stay there a little less depressing and lonely.”

Duke and Sophia had an improbable friendship. Sophia was well-known for her vivacious energy among the residents of the shelter, whereas Duke is a more composed individual.
Saraceno described Sophia as a “cute goofball who likes to lean her whole body into you for pets.” Duke is more serious, yet he occasionally shows a softer side.
Duke, though, was unmistakably enchanted by Sophia’s adoration. They both came at the shelter after walking the streets as strays, so perhaps he felt a connection to her.
“Sophia wanted a dog friend so bad!” said Saraceno. We believe that Duke was eventually defeated by her tenacity and stunning Dumbo ears.
Sophia had found her forever family by September, but she will never forget Duke’s solace and generosity.
Duke is still looking for a place to call his own, where his family will be willing to offer him affection, just like Sophia’s. The calm, kind child, who has been living at the shelter the longest, is eager to meet his ideal match.
