“How Do People Live Here?”: An English Family Showed Their 400-Year-Old Country House!
Let’s immerse ourselves in the picturesque scenery of the English countryside, where a majestic 400-year-old mansion stands tall. In our experience, many British homes can take your breath away with their splendour, as if you lose the ability to speak when you enter. But this house is even more breathtaking!
The owner of this house, Blanche, is the editor of the cookery section of a popular British website and the author of a well-known recipe book. Her husband, a professional art historian, searches for and promotes talented but little-known artists.
This two-storey mansion with stone floors, which dates back to the 15th century, was purchased by them in 2001, before they were officially married. The house is a heritage site, like many others in the neighbourhood, with its adobe walls and thatched roof.
Let’s go to the dining room annex. Can you see it? This is what it looks like from the inside. This is the place where the whole family gathers when relatives come to visit.
Next to it is the living room, filled with lots of details. A fireplace, a small stained glass window, a chest of drawers for firewood, a shelf with retro books – all this creates a cosy atmosphere.
In the living room and some other rooms, double carpeting has been laid to make walking on the ancient stone floor more comfortable.
The house is full of paintings, many of which are eye-catching. This is not surprising, given that the owner of the house is in the business of promoting artwork.
The house has not only 2 living rooms but also 2 dining rooms, even though only three people live in the house.
There is also a washroom on the ground floor.
The kitchen, although it has a modern look, is full of historical details, such as the AGA oven and the collection of copper crockery that Blanche has been collecting all her life.
The children’s room-living room is decorated with paintings by British artist Grayson Perry.
And finally, a parent’s bedroom where I would feel like a queen every time I woke up.
The bathroom on the first floor is also full of charm.
The guest bedroom is often visited by relatives, so the house is always filled with warmth and joy.
Even the stairwell here looks like a work of art.
And this is what nature looks like around the house:
A real English idyll! There really is a tranquillity emanating from this landscape, isn’t there? Perhaps this house will stand just as strong and unwavering for centuries to come!
