“Good Job”: A Mini House Built By a 13-year-old Teenager In His Backyard Will Definitely Impress You!

Most middle schoolers are busy with various activities, but Luke Thill, a unique 13-year-old from Dubuque, Iowa, stands out from the crowd.

This talented and proactive boy has taken on an extraordinary project by building his very own small house in his parent’s backyard. With a total cost of approximately $1,500 USD, Luke is now living his dream in this charming cottage. Let’s take a closer look at this incredible endeavor.

Unlike many of his peers immersed in modern technology, Luke chose a more traditional and hands-on approach to combat boredom. Last summer, he decided to embark on the ambitious journey of constructing a small house.

Luke documented his entire process on his YouTube channel, sharing his motivations and the steps he took to turn his dream into reality.

The project spanned about a year, during which Luke diligently worked to gather the funds and materials needed. He engaged in activities like mowing lawns, running errands for neighbors, and even initiated an online fundraiser to support his endeavor.

Notably, he employed around 75 percent recycled materials, repurposing items from his grandma’s house and receiving some contributions, such as the front door, as gifts.

The resulting 89-square-foot house is a testament to Luke’s dedication. Measuring 10 feet long and 5 1/2 feet wide, the cottage features electricity but lacks plumbing amenities.

Despite the absence of water or a bathroom, Luke expresses his appreciation for the minimalistic lifestyle and the desire to avoid a hefty mortgage.

Looking ahead, Luke already has aspirations to build another, slightly larger house for when he starts college. Moreover, he hopes to inspire other kids by demonstrating that it’s possible to undertake such projects at a young age.

Luke’s story is a testament to what a child can achieve with a clear goal, a strong work ethic, and the support of family.
