“From Now On I Am Fin Affleck”: Ben Affleck’s Daughter, Seraphina Rose, Has A New Name!
Today, an unexpected topic is making rounds among fans and social media users alike: the 15-year-old daughter of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, formerly known as Seraphina Rose, made her debut with a new name, “Fin,” at a memorial service for Jennifer’s father over the weekend. The move prompts questions about her gender identity.
Sporting a black pantsuit and a distinctive haircut, Fin introduced herself with her new name and recited a Bible verse during the service in Charleston, West Virginia. Although Fin had previously been seen with her short haircut in February, the funeral marked her public introduction with the new name.
The memorial, streamed on Facebook, honored Jennifer Garner’s father, William Jack Garner, who passed away at 85. Following suit with other grandchildren, Fin took to the lectern, stating, “Hello, my name is Fin Affleck,” before reading from the Book of Proverbs.
Fin, sandwiched between older sister Violet Ann, 18, and younger brother Samuel, 15, is the middle child of Garner and Affleck. Despite their separation in 2015 and subsequent divorce filing in 2018, the couple maintains an amicable relationship.
In 2022, Affleck married singer Jennifer Lopez, whose 16-year-old daughter Emme Maribel Muniz, uses gender-neutral pronouns and has bonded with Fin. The two were recently photographed together, with Fin sporting pink-dyed hair.
Signs of the name change emerged earlier when Fin was spotted hugging her mother at their school bus stop, with the name “Fin” embroidered on her backpack. With a boyish haircut for years, Fin often appears in photos embracing a more masculine presentation.
Fin joins a list of celebrity children exploring identity, including Emme Maribel Muniz, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, Samuel Watts, and Gwen Stefani’s son. The move also reflects ongoing efforts in the U.S. towards gender-neutral education, challenging traditional pronoun usage in schools to accommodate diverse gender identities.
