Volodymyr Sysa, a Zaporizhzhya resident, has constructed an extraordinary house topped with a unique superstructure. According to “Position” magazine, Sysa utilized champagne bottles as the primary building material for his unconventional creation.

The inspiration for building a glass palace sparked in Volodymyr’s mind back in the 1980s when he stumbled upon a photograph of a peculiar glassware house in a magazine. Determined to realize a similar project, he began collecting empty bottles with the hope of one day bringing his vision to life.

Over the course of 20 years, Sysa amassed a staggering 8,000 empty bottles to materialize his dream. Despite the challenges in sourcing such an unconventional building material, Sysa persevered, sourcing bottles from various locations including restaurants, parks, social gatherings, and even trash bins. He insisted on using domestically-produced bottles for their thicker glass compared to imported ones.

The culmination of Sysa’s dedication and hard work resulted in a breathtaking architectural marvel on his country plot—a house that transcended mere functionality to become a veritable palace.

Despite the delicate appearance of the glass structure, the house boasts remarkable thermal properties. The trapped air within the bottles ensures warmth in winter and coolness in summer, providing comfort year-round.

Sysa’s remarkable creation garnered attention from potential buyers, with offers reaching as high as one million hryvnias.

However, Sysa declined, unwilling to part with a project into which he poured countless hours of labor and boundless love over the years of construction.
