“Children Gift Mom a Kitchen Renovation for Her 60th Birthday”: How Does the 64 Sq Ft Kitchen Look Now?
A 60th birthday is a special milestone, and the children wanted to give their mom an unforgettable gift by transforming her small but cozy kitchen. With a limited budget, they took on the project themselves, pouring love and care into every detail.
The plastic window, installed a few years ago, remained in place, but the windowsill was removed and replaced with a wide countertop. Now, it’s not just a spot for flowers but also a practical work surface. The faded wallpaper was stripped away, and the floor was adorned with new tiles. The heating radiator was covered with a decorative grille, blending seamlessly into the updated décor.
The chosen furniture set was pure white. Contrary to popular belief, white isn’t hard to maintain; in fact, it’s practical and easy to clean. In a compact space, it creates an illusion of spaciousness and floods the room with light. The new work area turned out to be spacious, thanks to the countertop-windowsill. Built-in lighting beneath the upper cabinets ensures a bright, functional workspace without casting shadows.
The sink was tucked into the corner, conveniently close to the work area and away from the stove, avoiding splashes on the food being cooked. The old refrigerator remained, as the budget didn’t allow for a replacement just yet. Future plans include upgrading it and hiding it behind the kitchen’s cabinetry. The only misstep was placing the microwave on top of the fridge—mom finds it a bit hard to reach at times.
A small TV was mounted on the wall near the fridge, perfectly positioned for viewing both while cooking and while enjoying a meal. The final result exceeded all expectations! Mom was overjoyed with her transformed kitchen, now filled with warmth, light, and comfort. And the children were happy to give her a space that reflected their love and care.
