“The Tree Man” is a person whose life has been deeply affected by a rare condition that causes severe malformations in his hands. Initially known for this unique condition, he has faced numerous challenges and undergone multiple surgeries. Today, thanks to his unwavering determination and the skill of medical professionals, he has found a profound joy in simply being able to hold his daughter again.
Abul Bajandar, from Bangladesh, suffers from a rare condition known as ’Tree Man’ Syndrome. This hereditary disorder, while non-contagious, is currently incurable, with surgeries offering only temporary relief. Abul’s struggle is not solitary, as others around the world also face the hardships of this syndrome.
The syndrome causes wart-like skin growths that resemble tree bark. These growths, which begin as small bumps, can grow extensively, leading to significant disability for those affected.
Abul’s condition first appeared in his adolescence, around the ages of 13-14, starting with small warts. As he grew older, the condition worsened rapidly, affecting various parts of his body.
After undergoing 16 surgeries between 2016 and 2017 at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh, Abul achieved a significant milestone—he could once again hold his daughter. These surgeries were aimed at removing the bark-like lesions from his hands and feet, offering a glimmer of hope in his battle against Tree Man Syndrome.
Despite the frustrating return of his condition, Abul remains hopeful and resilient. Although doctors observed the recurrence of the syndrome, Bajandar remains optimistic, stating, “My only dream is to recover from this situation and live a healthy life.”
His heartfelt words reflect not only his personal struggle but also a universal desire for health and recovery.
Bajandar’s enduring hope is evident as he expresses, “All I can say is that I truly believe and hope that a cure exists for this disease.” In the face of adversity, his spirit remains strong, representing the courage of those battling rare and challenging medical conditions.
