What the tallest woman in the world looks like and how she lives
It just so happened that Rumeisa Gelgi from the Turkish city of Safranbolu became famous all over the world not because of her merits, achievements in some area, but because of her growth. She reached 215 cm, despite the fact that she is currently only 25 years old.
The thing is that Rumeisa’s high growth is due to Weaver’s syndrome – an extremely rare genetic disease characterized by rapid overgrowth throughout the growth period, combined with anomalies in the development of the skeleton and internal organs.
For the first time, the girl got into the Guinness Book of Records when she was only 18 years old (her height at that time was already 213 cm). In 2014, Rumeisa was named the tallest teenager in the world. In October 2021, she became the tallest living woman in the world and currently still holds this title.
In addition, according to the Guinness Book of Records, Gelgi is also the owner of the longest fingers, the largest hands and the longest back among living women.
Of course, life with such a serious illness cannot be easy. So, starting from the age of one, Rumeisa went through a number of operations, including in connection with congenital heart defects and scoliosis. In addition, Gelgi has to use a wheelchair to get around.
At the moment, according to the girl, her health is stable. Rumeisa graduated from high school in 2016, and in March of this year, she received her professional certificate from Harvard University.
At the end of September, the first flight of Gelgi on an airplane took place. Of course, the flight was special in its own way, as Turkish Airlines had to remove six seats from economy class. However, everything went well and Rumeisa landed in San Francisco. The girl shared her emotions on social networks and said that the flight was “perfect”, and the crew members were “incredibly kind and helpful.”
While in the US, Gelgi has already visited Apple’s headquarters in Silicon Valley, as she dreams of connecting her life with the technology industry. The girl also plans to travel around Europe and provide support to people around the world with the same disease.
