Unrecognizable ’80s Horror Icon Stuns Fans in Rare Public Appearance!: Who Is He?

If you guessed Griffin Dunne, you would be correct! The 70-year-old actor and director was recently spotted enjoying a summer stroll through New York City. Dunne was seen walking his dog and a bicycle, dressed casually in a T-shirt from the iconic restaurant Beefsteak Charlie’s. Even in a relaxed setting, the veteran entertainer exuded the charm that has marked his long career.

Dunne first rose to prominence with his starring role in the 1981 horror-comedy An American Werewolf in London. He described the opportunity as life-changing in an interview with Closer magazine. Six years later, he teamed up with pop icon Madonna in the 1987 comedy Who’s That Girl, playing her leading man. Dunne recalled that working with Madonna was a lot of fun, despite the media frenzy and helicopters constantly hovering over the set.

Beyond acting, Dunne has built an impressive directing career. His credits include the films Practical Magic, starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, and Addicted to Love, featuring Meg Ryan and Matthew Broderick. His acting portfolio spans decades, with notable roles in Martin Scorsese’s After Hours, Dallas Buyers Club, and television shows such as Succession and This Is Us. Dunne has successfully balanced both sides of the camera throughout his career.

Storytelling runs in Dunne’s family. His late father, Dominick Dunne, was a Hollywood producer turned journalist, while his uncle John Gregory Dunne and aunt Joan Didion were both accomplished writers. Griffin himself has authored a memoir and produced an acclaimed Netflix documentary about his late aunt titled Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold, showcasing his deep connection to narrative and literary pursuits.

Dunne’s personal life has not been without tragedy. His younger sister, actress Dominique Dunne, was tragically murdered in 1982, an event that profoundly affected the family and inspired his father’s career as a crime writer. Griffin is currently married to his third wife, Anna Bingemann, whom he wed in 2009, continuing a life full of creative achievement, resilience, and dedication to family.
