A 17-year-old Native American has set a new world record for the longest hair among male teenagers – measuring 5 feet 3 inches. This achievement was recognized by the Guinness World Records.
Ruben Lox Twiss Jr. from Rapid City, South Dakota, has refrained from cutting his hair since the age of two. He surpassed the previous record held by Siddhdeep Singh Chahal from India, whose hair length last year was 4 feet 9 inches.Initially, Ruben’s parents allowed him to grow his hair because he was afraid of hair clippers. As he grew older, he continued growing it, following his tribe’s traditions.
Typically, Ruben braids his hair into a long braid. Each morning, he spends about 20 minutes washing it with shampoo and conditioner. It takes an hour to dry, followed by an additional 10 minutes to detangle, comb, and braid his hair.To accurately measure his hair, he visited a salon where his hair was untangled, washed, combed, and laid out to determine the longest strand.
Three measurements were taken, and the average became Ruben’s official record.Ruben enjoys having long hair and has no plans to cut it. Many have been inspired by him to grow their own hair. The only inconvenience he faces is that his hair sometimes gets caught in car doors and shower handles.Ruben belongs to the Oglala subtribe of the Lakota people. He hopes that this record “will make his family and tribe proud.” Currently, there is no living male record holder for the longest hair. Ruben will be eligible to claim this title when he turns 18.
The longest hair ever on a man belonged to Swami Pandarasannadhi, the head of Tirudutturadhi Monastery in Madras, India, whose hair reportedly measured 26 feet in 1949. The longest hair on a teenage girl – 6 feet 7 inches – was grown by Nilanshi Patel from India. She cut it in 2021 and donated it to a museum.
