“Impressive Transformation”: The Couple Turned a Vintage Bus Into a Super Comfortable Home On Wheels!

Erika and Clint, a fun-loving couple, took on the adventure of turning a vintage bus into their tiny home. Five years ago, they purchased a 1977 California Crown bus.

The challenge was real with its curvy walls and roof, making the conversion process longer than expected—lasting a total of 18 months.

Building a skoolie (school bus conversion) turned out to be more time-consuming than they initially thought.

Erika mentions the unforeseen challenges, saying, “That’s the thing people don’t tell you when you’re building a skoolie for yourself is that triple, quadruple the amount of time you think it’s going to take.”

Despite the learning curve, the skoolie community’s online resources, particularly YouTube videos, were helpful in guiding them through the process.

The 36-foot-long vintage bus, now a cozy home, showcases Erika’s top-notch interior design skills.

Her profession played a significant role in planning the space. Opting for a bright and colorful palette, she aimed to create a light, airy, and comfortable layout—a challenging feat in a tiny home.

Preserving the classic charm of the bus, Erika and Clint didn’t make many changes to the front. In the kitchen, they designed a highly functional space using unique materials. The counter features character-rich reclaimed wood with a U-shaped workspace created by a flip-up leaf.

Moving to the living room, they incorporated impressive bookcase cabinetry around two windows. A spacious sofa with hidden storage and ottomans for extra seating complete the comfortable setup.

Between the living room and the bedroom, a fully functional bathroom with a spacious closet showcases a chic and practical design. Notably, the shower is fully tiled, including the back wall with a waterproof PVC vanity that cleverly hides an electrical outlet in one of the drawers.
