After the enormous animal became stuck in muck, a young mother spent nearly three hours by her pet horse. The tide was rising quickly, and it took a race against the clock to save the horse. Initially, the courageous mom was able to save both her daughter and another horse.

For this mother-daughter team and their two horses, a ride on the beach quickly devolved into a nightmare. When the enormous beasts were mired in muck, Nicole Graham was riding 17-year-old Astro while her daughter Paris was riding a younger horse. The mom hurried to save her daughter and her horse in a desperate attempt.

Astro was finding it difficult to escape, and his desperate attempts to do so only served to further sink him. As a result, his owner clung to him and tried to soothe him down until Paris, the owner’s young daughter, called out for assistance. The girl went to their car and made a call for assistance there. Her mother remained by Astro at this time.

The horse and his owner were worn out when a rescue crew showed up. Fortunately, though, after sedating Astro, they were able to get him to safety. Graham, who is the owner of ten horses, found the experience to be horrifying.

“It was frightening. The sight of my horse struggling and becoming worn out was extremely upsetting, the woman told the Geelong Advertiser. Every time I moved, the mud pulled me back down because it was everywhere. It refused to let us leave.

Thanks to the efforts of the fire department’s team, which included a veterinarian and a local farmer, the horse was saved. Thankfully, Astro merely became dehydrated rather than being hurt.

Fire lieutenant Roger Buckle stated, “It was a race against the tide, and we won.

Nicole Graham, the owner, was commended by veterinarian Stacey Sullivan with saving the horse’s life. “A lot of horses don’t make it, and I think the possibility of survival would have been much lower without the owner there,” she said.
