Despite the challenges, she found happiness running a small shop that provided essential goods to the local community. Her greatest joy came when she discovered she was expecting a child. However, her pregnancy was difficult, and she nearly lost her life due to severe health complications. Against the odds, she survived, and in the hospital, she gave birth to their daughter, Napirai.

Over time, however, Corinne began to see a darker side of Lketinga. His jealousy grew uncontrollable, and he became increasingly suspicious of her, accusing her of infidelity. His loving nature faded, replaced by anger and paranoia. The final blow came when he questioned Napirai’s paternity, shattering what remained of their trust. Realizing that their love had turned into suffering, Corinne knew she had to leave. But Maasai traditions dictated that children belonged to their fathers, meaning she risked losing Napirai forever.

Thinking quickly, she convinced Lketinga to let her take their daughter to Switzerland under the pretense of visiting her grandmother. Once she arrived, she made the heartbreaking decision never to return. She later sent Lketinga a farewell letter, closing the chapter on their once passionate love story.

Years later, Corinne shared her incredible journey in her bestselling book, The White Maasai, which was translated into 30 languages and adapted into a film in 2005. She went on to write more books about her experiences in Africa while raising Napirai, who also built a life in Switzerland. Together, they later visited Kenya, where Napirai met her father. Lketinga had since remarried and had several children, while Corinne found happiness with her second husband in Switzerland.
