Married to Africa: how the fate of a woman who married an African tribal warrior turned out
Years ago, while on a holiday in Kenya with her boyfriend, a Swiss girl named Corinna’s life took an unexpected turn when she met a Maasai warrior who captured her heart. Despite her prosperous life back in Switzerland with a boutique of stylish clothes and a promising future, Corinna couldn’t shake the fascination she felt for this man, different from any she had known before. She ignored the judgmental stares and laughter in Nairobi and at the “white” hotel, embracing a life far removed from her previous comforts. Living in a hut with minimal possessions, she faced hardships like malaria, pregnancy, and the challenges of running a grocery shop. The cultural differences strained her relationship with Lketingi, her Maasai husband, leading her to make a tough decision – she fled to Switzerland with their daughter.
Fourteen years later, after her daughter Napirai became an adult, Corinna finally returned to Kenya, overcoming her fears that Lketingi might prevent Napirai from visiting her birthplace. Her African ex-husband, deeply hurt by her escape, struggled with the consequences, experiencing the pain of being cast out from the warriors and resorting to heavy drinking.
Now residing in Switzerland, Corinna has found solace in painting and even authored an autobiographical novel, “White Maasai,” which narrates her captivating life in Africa and beyond.
Despite her eventful journey, Corinna is no longer alone. She shares her adventures and travels on her official social media page, often accompanied by a man of her years.
Corinna Hofmann’s story is a testament to the power of following one’s heart, embracing unexpected paths, and finding newfound happiness even after enduring immense challenges.
