Their Friendship was no Longer Separated. In 4th Grade, He Made a Promise to a Girl With Down Syndrome

Ben and Mary shared the same class in primary school. From the time they were in the second grade, Ben took a caring interest in his classmate Mary, who had Down syndrome. Although Mary was a kind and endearing girl, she was often avoided by the other children. By the time they reached the 4th grade, Ben and Mary had formed a solid friendship.

Ben made it his mission to include Mary in every activity. Whenever he noticed Mary feeling left out, he would bring her to play football with him. He would prearrange with his teammates to allow Mary to score a goal, knowing how much she enjoyed every victory.

In 4th grade, when Ben and Mary’s friendship was at its strongest, he promised that they would attend prom together. However, destiny intervened and Mary had to relocate to another city, which meant she had to start attending a new school. Mary managed to find her place at the new school.

She took on the role of kit and equipment purchasing manager for the local football team, a sport she had grown very fond of. Meanwhile, Ben continued to play for his school’s team. By a twist of fate, they were reunited at an interscholastic football competition.

Their friendship remained unbroken after that reunion. The depth of their friendship deeply touched Mary’s parents and her brother. They were acutely aware that their wonderful child was often avoided by others, despite her being extremely amiable.

Ben, on the other hand, stated that he simply couldn’t break his promise. In his eyes, Mary was the best friend he ever had. She was incredibly genuine, always in high spirits, and was a breeze to get along with.
